Chrissie is a recognisable face around Newquay, having co-founded the Newquay Voice newspaper and serving as its photographer for 16 years. During this time, she developed a strong bond with the community and all its groups, organisations and charities – which is why she wanted to give something back and support them. Having raced from Australia to China in the second leg of the Clipper Round the World Race in 2018, Chrissie was about to set sail in the next stage from China to Seattle when she first became unwell and required immediate medical care. She was then subsequently diagnosed in January 2019. Despite having to cut her Clipper journey short, the competition gave Chrissie the ability to push herself to her mental and physical limits. Sailing was a big part of Chrissie’s life. 

Even before her diagnosis, Chrissie had an incredibly positive and vibrant outlook on life. Something that remained to her final days. Her late father always said there was no such word as ‘can’t’ – a motto Chrissie truly embraced, making her determined to fight with all her strength and enjoy life to the fullest.

Chrissie was joined by friends, family, supporters and well-wishers throughout her various escapades. From people taking her to her medical trials in style in a wide range of weird and wonderful vehicles (and animals!), to events, fundraisers and much much more. Chrissie’s legacy lives on through the support everyone has shown to the appeal, and to the good causes close to her heart.
